Liverpool club member is proven wrong by their $75 million summer signing

Liverpool summer signing has lived up to expectation as his transfer fee doesn't seem bad anymore.

This Liverpool player proved Liverpool club member wrong this season.

Many European clubs have spent big amounts on one player during a transfer window. Some of the times it goes well, and sometimes it goes horribly wrong. FC Barcelona is a great example of purchasing players for high transfer fees going wrong like Antoine Greizmann, Ousmane Dembele, and Phillippe Coutinho. PSG signing Kylian Mbappé for around $190 million from AS Monaco and Virgil Van Dijk joining Liverpool from Southampton for $100 million are seen as great signings.

In the eyes of former sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, Liverpool has nailed another big-money signing. The German football sports director joined last year, but he left last month when Klopp announced he would be leaving the club this summer. The German admits being wrong about spending over $70 million on one player last summer, but the player's performances are appealing to him, the club, the fans, and Jurgen Klopp.

Schmadtke praised Dominik Szoboszlai for his performances at Liverpool in his first season as he joined for around $75 million from RB Leipzig. Liverpool rebuilt their midfield after the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner left the club. Szoboszlai joined along with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Wataru Endo.

Schmadtke said, "At Liverpool, we brought Dominik Szoboszlai for €70m from RB Leipzig, and at the time, I said it’s too expensive. From today’s perspective, that was a misjudgment on my part. The boy was an important player from day one. He performed better than I would have expected him to!”
