Atletico Madrid are already looking ahead to next season as they begin shaping plans for a new competitive project. One of the main concerns for the club's board will be the future of Antoine Griezmann, who could leave the Metropolitano this summer if a convincing offer arrives from Major League Soccer.
According to Fichajes.net, the French forward is attracting interest from several MLS clubs and would be open to a move if the right proposal comes in. Although nothing has been finalised yet, Atletico have already started considering possible replacements.
Griezmann's departure would be a significant blow for Diego Simeone, as the striker is one of the team's key figures and most decisive players. As a result, the club needs to find a quality alternative who brings experience, creativity, and attacking threat.
In this context, the name Marco Asensio has gained momentum within Atletico’s offices. The Spanish international, currently at Paris Saint-Germain, has struggled for regular playing time in France and is reportedly open to a return to La Liga in search of a more prominent role.
At 28 years of age, Asensio ticks many of the boxes Atletico are looking for. He is versatile, has an eye for goal, can play across multiple positions in attack, and is well-acquainted with the Spanish top flight. Furthermore, his contract situation could open the door to a potential deal.
The former Real Madrid man has publicly expressed his desire to feel important again at a high-level club. With the Euros on the horizon and hopes of returning to the Spanish national team, a move back to Spain could be the perfect spark to reignite his career.
Atletico are carefully weighing their options. If Griezmann does decide to leave, Asensio is among the most serious candidates to step into a leading role in Simeone’s squad.
The former Madrid playmaker is one of the most attractive options for the Rojiblancos board, especially if Griezmann heads to the MLS. His talent, experience and knowledge of La Liga make him a strong candidate to reinforce Atletico’s attack in the next transfer window.
