Tensions from the Manchester Derby spilled beyond the pitch as Jack Grealish was assaulted following the final whistle. According to Mail Sport, the England international was attacked by a Manchester United supporter after the match at the Etihad Stadium.
Grealish, who had come on as a substitute in the second half, was confronted by the fan while making his way off the pitch. The incident caused immediate concern, both in the stadium and across social media, where news of the attack spread rapidly.
Local police responded quickly and arrested the individual responsible. The assailant, identified as a United supporter, managed to bypass security and approach the Manchester City midfielder in a shocking breach of safety.
Manchester City issued a strong statement condemning the attack and offered their full support to Grealish. The club also confirmed that it would be working closely with Greater Manchester Police and the Premier League to tighten security measures and ensure the safety of players.
Manchester United also released a statement expressing their disapproval of the fan’s actions. "There is no place for this kind of behaviour in football," read the message, making it clear the club would cooperate fully with the investigation.
Fortunately, Grealish was not seriously injured and left the pitch under his own power. Despite escaping physical harm, the incident raised serious concerns over player security, especially in high-profile matches such as the Manchester Derby.
The attack overshadowed another intense edition of the historic rivalry, which saw Manchester City once again get the better of their city rivals. But beyond the scoreline, the focus now shifts to preventing such acts of violence from tarnishing the game.
