FC Barcelona was happy to have Lionel Messi at the club for many years as he became one of the greatest players in the club’s history and in football history. While there was success with that Argentine star, now the Catalan club wants to sign another Argentine star, Julian Alvarez, from Manchester City. Alvarez’s future at Manchester City has been questioned these past couple of days as the striker wants to play more minutes next season. Atletico Madrid has been linked to the club and seems to be the club most interested in Alvarez, but now new sources report that a bigger club in the Premier League or La Liga could try to sign him. Marcos Benito from El Chiringuito TV said, “Alvarez would be delighted to play in La Liga,” and many assume that FC Barcelona will be the club to land the signing. Real Madrid already signed Kylian Mbappé and will bring in Endrick this summer, which wouldn’t make them likely to sign the Argentine striker. Man City will be looking for a sale of $80 million, and if Barcelona sells a valuable player, they will negotiate a cheaper price range of around $70 million.
Some Barcelona fans believe it would be a perfect match as the player was a fan of the club in the past, according to a Facebook post. The Argentine striker posted a Barcelona jersey with his name on the back and with the number 10, like his idol Lionel Messi.
Other clubs that are interested in signing strikers are PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United. The $80 million price tag seems too much for Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United, but PSG will likely be able to sign him as Kylian Mbappé left.
Alvarez played a total of 54 matches with Manchester City this past season. He scored a total of 19 goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions. The striker played over 3,400 minutes with the team this past season and won three trophies: the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League. He often played as the second striker and sometimes even as an attacking midfielder.
