Hernández's standout performances, including being named Player of the Month in July, have earned him a spot among the five finalists for the Landon Donovan MVP Award. The MLS is heavily represented by Latin American players in this year's nominations, with four of the five finalists hailing from the region. In addition to Hernández, Argentine superstar Messi and Uruguayan veteran Suárez (both of Inter Miami) and Brazilian midfielder Evander (Portland Timbers) are also in contention.

Rounding out the list of nominees is Congolese striker Christian Benteke of D.C. United.

Hernández has been a consistent threat for the Crew, racking up 2,120 minutes and contributing significantly to his team's success. While Messi has slightly edged him out in terms of goals and assists, Hernández's impressive numbers have solidified his status as one of the league's top performers.

The Colombian forward is also in the running for the MLS Goal of the Year award.

The nominees for the various awards were selected through a voting process involving all 29 MLS teams, who were allowed to nominate up to two players per category. The final winners will be determined by a combination of votes from players, coaches, and a select group of journalists.
