FC Barcelona will be risky this summer as many changes are expected to happen under their new manager, Hansi Flick. The German manager will hope for the Catalan club to make some signings but is open to keeping most of the players from last season and trust in the youth. The issue with this is that Flick wants to play a different style of football compared to what Xavi did this past season. Flick wants a new right-back this summer to join FC Barcelona, and that could mean that Joao Cancelo's future could be out of Barca. Catalunya Ràdio reports that Flick has chosen Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as a priority to sign this summer. He wants a player who could play as a right winger and as a right back, which Joao Cancelo could often play due to his creative abilities. Since the club is unsure whether to permanently sign Cancelo from Man City, Frimpong would be signed for around $50 million from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The German manager wants to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, and he plans to play with three defenders at the back sometimes. Frimpong would be the alternative to Lamine Yamal on the right wing, but he would be started as the right back. Joao Cancelo often played as a right-back who liked to attack from the right. The Portuguese fullback could also play on the left and attack from there as well.
Joao Cancelo spoke to Fútbol Emotion about wanting to stay at FC Barcelona despite still being a Manchester City player. Cancelo said, "I really like being at Barça, I am very comfortable. My family, my daughter, my wife also. We hope that next year we will be here!" Cancelo was on loan at Barcelona from Man City and the English club may ask for more than $30 million.
Joao Cancelo played 42 matches for FC Barcelona across all competitions. He scored four goals and provided five assists across all competitions. Frimpong played 47 matches for Bayer Leverkusen across all competitions. He scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists, where he won the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal Cup.
