Pep Guardiola walks away from the Santiago Bernabeu the happiest after the game ended 3-3 between Real Madrid and Manchester City. The game was intense throughout the entire 90-plus minutes but Man City tends to have an advantage ahead of the second leg next week at the Etihad Stadium. Real Madrid will now need to win at the Etihad Stadium, which is something they have never done. Guardiola spoke after the game and was asked what he thought about the game. Guardiola said, “I think it has been a nice game... It's so difficult [against] Real Madrid because they defend really well and the pace they have up front is unbelievable, so always you concede transitions against that team. It's impossible to control it.”

Guardiola mentioned that the game in the second leg will be crucial but believes they have the advantage with the fans cheering them on at the Etihad. Guardiola said, “3-3, we take it, and we have to win the game [at the Etihad Stadium] to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals. We have our people, sold out, we need all of them, all their energy during 95 minutes to try to beat the king of this competition. With our people in Manchester, we'll go for it, the people will be there.”

Pep Guardiola criticizes the Santiago Bernabeu’s grass

Guardiola was asked about the stadium’s closed roof and he had his opinion about it that may cause anger in Real Madrid. Guardiola said, “Closed roof? I like seeing the sky. The truth is that the stadium has turned out very well. Now they just need to take care of the grass.”

He mentioned this again as he says his players complained. Guardiola said, “My players told me the pitch isn't good. Don't take it the wrong way, the new stadium is amazing. But I remember Madrid's pitch as a beautiful carpet, and today that wasn't the case. They'll fix it, I'm sure.”
