FC Barcelona was unsure of their future plans moving forward with Nike. Nike and FC Barcelona were beginning to part ways as there was a disagreement about a contract extension. The Catalan club was asking for more money, but the American company did not want to meet those numbers. The current deal between FC Barcelona and Nike started in 2018, and it is reportedly worth $114.7 million a year. The club was planning to negotiate with other companies like Puma, who were willing to offer more. Puma had some second thoughts about signing a deal with Barca as they believed the club used them to get more money from Nike. The club then decided to create its own brand.

FC Barcelona were planning to team up with Hummel to create their own brand to create the new kits. Gerard Romero reported that the possible idea of the club could be to create their own clothing line with Hummel for one or two years and then sign with Puma. Puma was offering more than Nike's $114 million per year deal and reportedly was offering more than $200 million. New reports suggested that Puma is actually willing to offer $124 million per year for FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona were considering breaking the contract with Nike, but they would've needed to pay compensation. Marca reported that breaking the contract with Nike would mean having to compensate them for a figure that would be between $43 million and $54 million, depending on the profit that the company had. For Barça to pay that amount is now impossible. It would have to go to trial and it would be paid to the conclusion, probably once Joan Laporta's mandate has ended.

Nike and Puma have offered more money for FC Barcelona
According to RAC 1, Nike improved the offer to FC Barcelona. Puma pays $21 million to 32 million more and will also agree to pay possible compensation. The Catalan club also rules out creating its own shirt brand.
