There was speculation that Messi would not make the trip because Inter Miami's manager, Tata Martino, expressed his desire to rotate players. Martino hopes all his squad players will be 100% fit for the first MLS game against Real Salt Lake. When asked about Messi's participation in the preseason games, the manager wasn't specific about whether the Argentine would play.

Martino responds, "We will see how they are physically, if they will be there or not. But we understand that the contractual part requires the presence of our best players." After the FC Dallas friendly game, the team will travel to Saudi Arabia to play in the Riyadh Season Cup, where they will play Al-Hilal and Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.

After the trip to Saudi Arabia, Inter Miami will go to Hong Kong to play the Hong Kong All-Stars. They will also visit Japan in a friendly game against Vissel Kobe. After those trips, the team went back to Miami to play one final friendly game against Messi's boyhood club, Newell's Old Boys.
