Lionel Messi is arguably the biggest football star in the world, and his former PSG manager, Christophe Galtier, learned it the hard way from the media. Last season, PSG was playing in the Champions League, and when Galtier decided to take Messi off so he could rest, the media couldn't believe it, but the Argentine understood the decision and did not complain. Galtier was surprised with many of the press questioning his decision to take Messi out of the game which made him realize how big of a player the Argentine is.

Galtier spoke about the moment when he took Messi out of a game for PSG which led to many eyebrows raised. Galtier said, "During our first Champions League match against Juventus (2-1, September 6, 2022), we won and I felt that we had to take out Leo Messi towards the end of the match, not to improve who or whatever but to protect him on a physical level. He was fine with the decision. After the match, everyone(journalists) informed me that it was the first time that Messi came out in a CL match (with PSG)."

Galtier goes on to praise the front three of Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé as the French coach believed that they would have got the team to new highest, but Neymar's injury last season halted those aspirations. Galtier said, "The trio of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé were excellent at playing together. I don't think we'll ever see that again in France. They were very efficient and our season was going well before the World Cup and then we lost Neymar in February due to injury. This affected our attacking formation.”

Galtier enjoyed training PSG but talked about the controversy

While the former coach of PSG liked training Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé, Galtier mentioned that because of the star players in his squad, they had to be careful with the smallest details to avoid controversy within the team. Galtier said, "Training the MNM [Messi, Neymar, Mbappé] was a blessing. With this extraordinary player profile, the slightest reaction, the slightest look, an out of place smile, a wink, or a gesture is a headline."
