Real Madrid is close to signing Kylian Mbappé as a free agent to improve the attack and make it the strongest in Europe and in the world. While Mbappé will add more depth to the attack, the club doesn't want to get rid of any other attacker, and they want to pay $1.6 million to keep Joselu. Mario Cortenga from the Athletic reports that the club is also happy with his attitude. Despite Mbappé and Endrick possibly joining, Joselu offers a different profile in attack. Joselu has not been starting lots of games this season, but his performances from the bench have impressed the club.
Joselu scored a crucial brace against Bayern Munich last week in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal at the Santiago Bernabeu. Vinicius Jr. took a shot from outside the box, and as Manuel Neuer looked to easily catch the ball, it slipped, and Joselu managed to quickly react and slotted the ball into the net. In the 90th minute, Joselu grabbed his second as Rudiger sent a low cross into the box, and the Spanish striker pushed the ball into the net from close range to complete the comeback and send the team to another Champions League final.
The Spanish striker is on loan in Real Madrid from Espanyol, and now that the deal is permanent, the club will thank him for his contributions this season. Joselu has played a total of 47 matches this season for Real Madrid in all competitions, where he scored 16 goals and provided three assists. Joselu has played a total of 2,000 minutes, but most of these matches have been played from the bench. In 33 La Liga matches he has played, Joselu has only started in 14 of them, but he has scored nine goals with two assists in the league.
Despite not playing him as often as Vinicus Jr., Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, Carlo Ancelotti praised Joselu and was surprised by his strong contributions to Real Madrid this season. The manager was asked about the players that surprised him, and he said, "Players who surprised me the most? The ones I didn't know much, Fran García, Joselu, Brahim."
