Cristiano Ronaldo is still going strong on the pitch despite being 39 years old. CR7 is the star of Al Nassr and the Saudi Pro League, as he scores many goals on the pitch. Ronaldo is even getting called up from the Portuguese national team for the upcoming EUROS 2024. Most footballers choose to retire by 39 or even younger, but Ronaldo may not have had any choice but to hang up the boots a couple of years ago. Ronaldo suffered an injury that almost ended his career, and the doctor who checked up on him revealed that crazy detail. When Ronaldo was injured in the EUROS 2016 Final against France, the star had to leave the pitch to get checked. The doctor saw Ronaldo in pain, crying on the pitch, and the medics noticed that he couldn’t continue the match. CR7 was crying not only because he wanted to help Portugal in the game but also because the injury he had suffered seemed painful.

The doctor feared about his injury and said, “I was afraid that this injury would end the career of Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team once and for all. I remember that I went to the locker room with great fear to undergo the medical examination, and I saw Ronaldo’s tears, but then I realized that the injury was not as serious as I feared at first, and he is still with us and is still always scoring, and this is the most important thing.”

Ronaldo and Portugal won the 2016 EUROS, which will be a core memory for the striker and the people of Portugal. Now, they aim to win another win this year in the 2024 EUROS in Germany. The Portugal national team manager Roberto Martinez spoke about having Ronaldo in the squad and said, “Cristiano’s goal was to stay in the national team. We all have the same goal, and it is important that we have the clarity to give what the fans expect from us.”

Roberto Martinez on the upcoming EUROS for Portugal

Roberto Martinez was asked about how Ronaldo is motivated about the next EUROS despite already having won it in 2016. The Portuguese national team manager said, “Cristiano’s secret is that he wants to be better every day. He has scored 42 goals, he naturally gives a lot and demands to be part of the team, Cristiano is the captain of the national team, no other player has played in five European Championships.”

Portugal is one of the favorites of the upcoming EUROS since they have lots of quality players in the squad and have only lost one time under Martinez. When asked if Portugal is ready for the EUROS, Martinez said, “We need a preparation period. It’s not easy. We are not ready yet, we need three friendly matches, and the group stage matches are the key.”
