The new season has begun for Real Madrid, but for Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes, the story appears to be the same. Coach Xabi Alonso left him on the bench for the league debut against Osasuna, a decision that, far from being a surprise, confirms the trend of recent lineups. Rodrygo, used to waiting for his chance from the sidelines, seems trapped in a secondary role that, it appears, will not change as long as Xabi Alonso is in charge.
Before this situation, there was speculation about a possible transfer for the attacker. There were rumors of offers from clubs of the stature of Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and PSG, although none ever materialized officially. This silence in the market, despite the hints, left Rodrygo in an uncomfortable position, without a starring role on the team and without clear options for an exit.
Rodrygo arrived at Real Madrid from Santos in Brazil, heralded as one of football's brightest young prospects. It was expected that his dribbling, his scoring ability, and his nose for finishing in key moments would make him a fundamental part of the Madrid attack. Early in his career, he showed flashes of his talent, scoring important goals in crucial matches and winning the affection of the fans. However, his consolidation as a starter has been intermittent, and now his future seems to be far from the Spanish capital.
The only alternative that is emerging strongly for the Brazilian is a loan to Tottenham. Real Madrid views this option favorably, as long as the London club covers his entire salary. This loan could be key to re-establishing the player's value, as the offices in Valdebebas have now accepted that no European club will pay 100 million euros for him at this moment a figure the club hopes to achieve in the future. Therefore, a good season in the Premier League could help his value reach that amount by 2026.
The big question is whether the loan agreement will include a buy clause from the London club. What is clear is that, judging by recent events, the movements will be very intense in this final stretch of the transfer period. The player has received enough signals that he does not have a decisive role for the coaching staff, and an exit, even if temporary, might be the best solution to relaunch his career.
