Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have always shown respect towards each other, as they battled against each other for many years to claim the best player award in the world. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher doesn't think the same as he believes that the two football icons 'cannot stand each other.' Carragher spoke with Football 365 and said, " They didn't want to lose to the other for trophies like the Ballon d'Or - that was always the bid rivalry for them every season. They definitely made each other better. But I think they probably can't appreciate that until they've finished. While they're playing, I bet they can't stand each other."

The Liverpool legend has spoken about the debate in the past and recently believes that Messi is ahead of Ronaldo in terms of the best player in history. Carragher said, "There was never a discussion, and Ronaldo was not close in any way to Messi. Ronaldo is one of the greatest goalscorers in history, but Messi is the greatest player in history.”

It seems that Carragher's comments about Ronaldo in the past have not pleased the Portuguese player. When CR7 arrived at Manchester United for the second time in his career, Carragher questioned the signing since the Portuguese striker was not at his peak anymore. Before a Manchester United game, Ronaldo approached a group of pundits where Carragher was included. CR7 shook everyone's hands, but the Liverpool legend did it on purpose because of his comments on CR7.

Messi insulted Carragher on Instagram

Carragher was infamous for criticizing players, including Messi. The former Liverpool defender thought that PSG signing Messi was not a good one since he was not running a lot to help the team. Carragher revealed that the Argentine responded to him on Instagram direct messages and even called him a donkey in Spanish. Carragher said, "I said I didn't think Messi was a great signing for PSG. I got a private message on Instagram from the man himself. I will not be showing private messages, but he basically called me a donkey."
