Chelsea are the team that has spent the most money on signings in recent seasons. Since the arrival of new owner Todd Boehly, they have been intent on building a team of young stars that can compete with other European giants like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

That is why in the winter of 2023 they paid a fortune to buy Enzo Fernandez and Mikhail Mudryk. The Argentine midfielder had had a brief and brilliant spell at Benfica before playing in the World Cup and becoming a champion alongside Lionel Messi, while the Ukrainian winger had long been Shakhtar Donetsk's top star. But they were not enough and six months later they invested even more money in other players such as Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Robert Sanchez and Axel Disasi.

However, the results have yet to live up to expectations. The performance of the team under Mauricio Pochettino has not been satisfactory this season and for now they are in 11th place in the standings, far from the leaders and the qualification zone for international tournaments. It is therefore not surprising that some players are considering the possibility of leaving for another club.

According to Sport newspaper, Enzo Fernandez is unhappy with the level of Chelsea and intends to change team for next season. But that's not all, as he also seems to have decided where he wants to play: Barcelona. Reports indicate that his desire is to reach the Spanish side, which coincidentally have been looking for a midfielder of those characteristics.

It will not be easy

Despite the alleged desire of Enzo Fernandez, the negotiations between Chelsea and Barcelona would be extremely complicated. The Catalan team has financial problems that prevent them from spending a lot of money on signings, while the Blues are unlikely to allow the midfielder to leave for less than the $135 million they paid for him last year. In addition, he is under contract until June 30, 2032.
