As Liverpool continues to search for a new manager, the same names are going to pop up. Finding a replacement for Jürgen Klopp will be an unenviable task and so it will take an absolutely elite candidate to fill the void. For that reason, the number of options that Liverpool has available to pick from is limited. The two names most mentioned so far have been Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi, with a bit of Julian Nagelsmann and Rúben Amorim thrown in.

But beyond that, there are not that many options. Liverpool needs someone experienced, who is either already available or would be gettable. Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, for instance, are off the table for obvious reasons. While Liverpool will not find a repeat of Klopp and should not be aiming for someone exactly the same for fear of simply having a worse version of what came before, of the realistic names being thrown into consideration, the Reds must definitely pick someone who can replicate something that the German offered.

Specifically, Liverpool requires a coach who instantly demands respect and has an aura. Klopp has taken Liverpool right back to the very pinnacle of the game and with that brings different demands from what came before. The new Liverpool manager will need to have experience of being at the top.

Additionally, in the transfer market, Liverpool will be losing a key asset. The Reds are still a big pull on their own, of course, but Liverpool is still losing someone who could convince almost any player in the world to pick Anfield over the riches of elsewhere. Alonso, though, is someone that would offer that as soon as he walked through the door. The Spaniard albeit for different reasons to Klopp, would be able to step straight into the shoes that Klopp leaves behind.

The new conditions

He is a big enough name to guarantee that immediate respect. In fact, he would only need to spray a couple of passes at the AXA Training Centre to get the attention of those already at the club. When Klopp arrived at Anfield, the task was to get Liverpool back to the top. Now that he is leaving, it is there but that means a very different type of head coach is now required.
