In an intense game, Arsenal defeats Liverpool 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium. For different reasons, both teams hoped for a win to progress in the Premier League table. Liverpool could've extended the gap between them and the rest of the league but Arsenal gets the win to get closer to Liverpool at the top of the table.

Arsenal started the game intensely, pressing Liverpool and giving them trouble to play out from the back. Liverpool created a few chances, but Arsenal were the closest to scoring, and they did in the 14th minute. Martin Odegaard gives a great pass in between the Liverpool defense to Kai Havertz. The gap between Van Dijk and Konate was too big, and Havertz almost wasted the chance as he took a shot directly at Alisson. The Brazilian keeper’s save led the ball to fall to Saka, who controlled the ball and shot it at the empty net.

Liverpool found the equalizer in the luckiest circumstances due to a crazy own goal from Arsenal. Ryan Gravenberch chips the ball to Luis Diaz and fights for it with William Saliba. Saliba does not clear it out and tries to let the ball travel to David Raya’s hands. It was a big mistake from the French defender as Diaz managed to stick a foot out and flick it onto Gabriel Magalhaes’ hand. The hand sends the ball into the net, and Liverpool finds the equalizer seconds before the half-time whistle without taking a shot on target.

At the start of the second half, Liverpool looked more of themselves as Diaz had a shot blocked in the box. Curtis Jones was close to scoring, and his curled shot just passed by the right post. Arsenal also gets a few chances as an Odegaard shot and a Gabriel header goes wide.

Liverpool mistakes give Arsenal a huge boost in the league

A lobbed pass by Gabriel to Martinelli led the ball to go outside of the box, leading to a huge mistake by Liverpool. Virgil Van Dijk couldn't clear the ball as Martinelli chased it. Alisson tried to clear the ball, but he missed it completely. Martinelli easily slots the ball in the empty net. Martinelli makes it 2-1 for Arsenal.

Konate received a red card in the 88th minute, and Liverpool played with ten men in the game's last minutes. Trossard, in the 92nd minute, gets past Elliot, runs to the Liverpool box, and shoots the ball under Alisson's legs to make it 3-1. Arsenal are now second in the Premier League with 49 points and are only two points behind Liverpool. The title race is on!
