Seeing a club legend leave is never easy for a football fan. Football fans make such strong attachments to players and when they must leave it’s like a hole in your heart. It is not just football fans that feel that loss, as it is also the clubs themselves that feel that loss, regardless of how it ended. The greatest example you could use is when Messi left Barcelona. It felt like a piece of Barca died that day and the Nou Camp did not feel the same.

Real Madrid have seen their fair share of legends leave the football club over the last couple of years. They’ve seen Benzema, Marcelo, Casemiro, Ramos, and Varane all leave the club within the last three years. Players that will always be synonymous with the club’s history. When you think of Sergio Ramos, you think Madrid captain.

Real Madrid faces the possibility of losing another legend this summer in Luka Modric. The story of Luka Modric is one that is enough to see a grown man cry. From his tough childhood, to being named worst transfer of the season in his first year at Madrid, to then winning the Ballon D’or in 2018. He has lived a fairytale career, and this chapter of the fairytale may just be closing for the Croatian international.

The departure of Modric from Madrid has been a possibility for the last couple of years as the player has signed consecutive one-year contracts and has had interest from Saudi Arabia for a while. But the Croatian has always rejected it cause his heart resided in Madrid. And he felt like he had enough in the tank. But with Madrid having young midfielders that are ready to take over the reins, the need for Luka may not be the same as it was a couple of years ago. The club have addressed the long-term replacement plan perfectly and it is now time to put it into action.

Where could Luka Modric end up?

Journalist Hugo Cerezo has reported that Modric will be leaving Los Blancos when his contract expires this summer, and the two possible destinations are Saudi Arabia or a move to America to Inter Miami to join another Ballon D’or winner in Lionel Messi.
