Manchester City dominated the possession at the start of the game and created the early chances. Kevin De Bruyne took a shot straight at Caoimhin Kelleher. Liverpool also started to try some attempts, with Conor Bradley almost finding Darwin Nunez at the far post.

The opener arrived in the 23rd minute when Manchester City scored from a corner. De Bruyne whips a perfect ball at the near post to John Stones, who pokes the ball into the net past Kelleher. Nathan Ake pushed Alexis Mac Allister out of the way, so the ball passed perfectly to Stones, which made it a well-worked corner. Liverpool looked for the equalizer before halftime, and they almost did as Szoboszlai's header in the box went wide. Man City also had the chance to double their lead when Erling Haaland went 1v1 with Van Dijk and took a shot straight at Kelleher.

The second half started perfectly for Liverpool as in the 47th minute, Darwin Nunez intercepted a poor pass from Ake to Ederson. Nunez tries to go around Ederson, but the Brazilian keeper takes him out. A penalty was rewarded for Liverpool while Ederson was hurt. Mac Allister stepped up and scored past Ederson as the ball went into the left corner. Ederson couldn't continue in the game and was replaced by Ortega.

Liverpool and Man City had clear chances, but it stayed 1-1

After the penalty, Liverpool dominated Man City many times in front of the goal. Liverpool weren't clinical enough as Luis Diaz created chances and took shots that went wide. Nunez was close as well when a ball from Andy Robertson went to the Uruguayan, but Ortega made the save.

Man City hit the crossbar in the 71st minute when Kelleher punched the ball to Phil Foden, and his back made the ball bounce onto the crossbar. Doku's late shot went off the post past Kelleher, but the ball bounced back to the keeper's arms. Liverpool tried to win it late in the game, and a possible penalty for Liverpool was argued. VAR said no as Doku slightly kicked Mac Allister in the air. It ends even for both teams after an epic game at Anfield.
