Barcelona again had a disappointing performance on Sunday, when they drew 3-3 at the Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys in Montjuic against Granada. Considering that they were facing one of the weakest teams in La Liga (second last and in relegation zone), the expectation of the fans was that Los Blaugranas would show a convincing level and get a victory that would allow them to get closer to Girona in the standings.

But none of that happened. The Catalan side again showed serious defensive problems and, despite scoring three goals, were unable to win. The disappointing result caused many fans to berate the team with whistles and chants, as well as expressing their anger against the chiefs, especially president Joan Laporta.

The tension grew even more when the words of the sporting director, Deco, in an interview with 'Nascer do Sol', became known, in which he analyzed Barcelona's problems. "The new direction is fundamental and the president agrees with me on this. A profound change is needed. There is a method that is exhausted," was the strongest sentence, to which he later added: "We have to discover someone who breaks with the past once and for all and moves towards a new paradigm."

Xavi Hernandez, during the press conference after the match against Granada, was asked about this and expressed his surprise: "It is not what he tells me. He believes in the model and in the Barça DNA, besides, he has played here. I can't say anything else, I don't know". This made foresee a new conflict in the club, this time between the coach and the sporting director, but then something unexpected happened.

It was all a mistake

A few hours later, the magazine 'Nascer do Sol' published a clarifying message about the interview with Deco. There, journalist Afonso de Melo explained: "The phrase pronounced by Deco in the magazine's interview needs clarification. It is not Deco's decision or will to change his method or paradigm, but it was Xavi who pointed that way with his departure. The poor explanation of the text does not imply Deco's position nor does it point to his will. The misinterpretation of the phrase is the fault of the author and not the words of the Barcelona sporting director, who is in total agreement with the president on this issue, as he wanted to emphasize. For our part, we can only accept the miswording by apologizing obviously to Deco, who has nothing to do with it."
