Guardiola spoke about Messi on the second episode of the series 'Together: Champions again!', a documentary produced by 'City Studios' that chronicles the trajectory of Manchester City during the 2021/22 season, where they were crowned champions of the Premier League.

The production was launched on July 27 in a seven-episode format and is a sequel to the first feature film entitled 'Together', which unraveled the last month and a half of the 'Cityzen' team during the 2020/21 campaign. In this one, Pep Guardiola's side also won the league title but with the satisfaction of beating Manchester United by more than 10 points.

In a scene we can see how the Catalan coach gives instructions to his players in the locker room using Lionel Messi as an example, one of the most iconic strikers he managed during his four years as FC Barcelona coach.

Guardiola, in front of the entire squad, praises the Argentine and affirms that he is the best player he has ever seen in his entire life, making it clear that his wish is for them to imitate him. "Do you know why Messi is the best player I've seen in my life? Because he is a competitor. He is an animal. Messi passes the ball and goes in like a machine. He smells the goal" the coach concluded.

Guardiola has suffered at the hands of Messi

After finishing his time at Barça, Pep moved on to Bayern Munich. In the 2014/15 season he faced Leo Messi and company in the Champions League semifinals, where the Bavarians lost with a 6-2 aggregate score with two goals from ‘La Pulga’ in the first leg at Camp Nou. Two seasons later they would meet again, this time with Pep leading Manchester City. Barcelona's superiority was notorious in the first leg of the group stage with a 4-0 win that included a Messi hat-trick, while in the second leg the English side won (3-1), with Messi scoring the goal for the 'Culés'.
