Kalidou Koulibaly arrives in London to join Chelsea, the price the ‘Blues’ will pay for the defensive reinforcement

Koulibaly is the first player chosen by Thomas Tuchel to reinforce Chelsea's defense. After forgetting about Jules Koundé, the London side has taken the plunge and closed the signing of the Senegalese defender from Napoli, whose incorporation will be made official soon.

The center-back left Italy on Wednesday for London, where he will undergo a medical and sign as a new Chelsea player. Afterwards, Koulibaly will fly to Los Angeles to join the 'Blue' pre-season tour and, then, the signing will be officially announced.

On paper, this is a win-win deal for all parties. Chelsea recruits a defensive leader, a benchmark player who could guarantee an immediate return on investment. Napoli will get 40 million euros for a player who has been depreciated and who did not plan to renew his contract, which expires next summer.

Koulibaly lands in a big Premier League team, Champions League competitor, aspiring to all titles, and fulfills his promise not to play in Italy for any other team than Napoli.

The defender played 34 games last season in which he scored 3 goals and contributed with the same amount of assists, despite his position on the field. In addition, at international level, he won the African Cup of Nations with Senegal in 2021.
