Before suffering a concussion that caused him to miss the final five games of the regular season, Jeremy Ebobisse was in the midst of a breakout season and was only three goals away from attempting a career mark in a shortened 2020 campaign.

While the Portland Timbers forward returned to play as a substitute in the team's Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs loss to FC Dallas after the injury stopped a streak of 75 straight games, Ebobisse claimed he “wasn not proud" of how 2020 played out.

Now Ebobisse plays for the San Jose Earthquakes and some people have wondered what is the player wearing around his neck, as he has been seen with a collar-like device.

What is the collar Ebobisse wears?

The FDA cleared a new device for athletes. It is a collar that applies compressive force to the neck and is indicated for athletes 13 years of age and older for use during sports activities.

The noninvasive device called the Q-Collar increases blood volume in order to reduce brain movement within the cranial space, which can occur due to repetitive impacts to the head.

The FDA clarified that the device does not replace helmets and shoulder pads, but instead should be used with other protective sports equipment.

The product began development in 2011 and is owned by the company Q30 Sports Science founded by Bruce Angus and Thomas Hoey. The first country in which it was authorized for marketing was Canada.
