When Gerardo “Tata” Martino arrived at Mexico National Team, he established a solid base of players that he constantly called for every FIFA match window. Among those players there was Carlos Salcedo, who has now disappeared from El Tri’s roster.

Up until the 2021 Gold Cup, Salcedo was one of Martino’s favorite players and was immovable from his Starting XI, even if his performances were weak, to say the least, something that made Martino sit him for the final against USMNT.

Salcedo had to substitute Héctor Moreno during the game, after the Monterrey defender got injured, but during the warm-ups, Jorge Theiler pressured him, something that Salcedo didn’t like and quickly escalated into a discussion that prolonged to the locker room.

Since then, Martino blacklisted him and has been banished from El Tri, although with the current defenders, it looks difficult that he’d have a protagonist role. But instead of improving the way he reacts; Salcedo keeps taking bad decisions that are costing him his job.

Suspended, again, in the MLS

Salcedo decided to leave Tigres at the start of Clausura 2022 and even refused to play a few games, while Tigres negotiated his trade to Toronto FC for the Venezuelan Yeferson Soteldo, who didn’t have a place in Toronto after they signed Lorenzo Insigne.

“El Titán” has played just games in the current season for Bob Bradley’s squad, after missing one thanks to a red card he received in the second game of the season, and he’ll miss at least another game after he was sent off on the last minutes of the 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake on the round six of the 2022 MLS Season.

When Salcedo was trying to clear a ball, he didn’t realize that Sergio Cordova was behind him, fighting to win the ball. Instead of kicking the ball, Salcedo’s foot impacted right on Cordova’s face and the referee didn’t hesitate to send off the Mexican defender.

His first suspension was retroactive

The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Carlos Salcedo for one game after issuing a retroactive red card for serious foul play. Salcedo missed the match against Colombus Crew after the foul he committed during the game against NY Red Bull, when he was fighting for a ball against Patryk Klimala, who ended on the ground after Salcedo missed the ball and tackled him.
