Major League Soccer teams must prepare to face old acquaintances and new CONCACAF rivals.

The Concachampions 2022 is about to begin and yesterday the duels that will be played in the first round of the tournament were announced. But who will be the opponents of the MLS teams?

The teams that will face the U.S. representatives come from Honduras, Haiti, Costa Rica, and Mexico, countries with which the Stars and Stripes also have national team duels.

The last time an MLS team won CONCACAF's top club title was in 2001 when LA Galaxy took the trophy from Olimpia of Honduras, 3-2.

Will this be the occasion for MLS to regain the dominance over other clubs that it has not held since 2001?

MLS teams' opponents in the 2022 CONCACAF Championships

Motagua, from Honduras

The Blue Cyclone, as it is popularly known, is a team that belongs to Honduran soccer royalty.

At the international level, it is the Honduran club that has played in the most official competitions, among them: the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Concacaf Champions League, the Concacaf League, the Concacaf Giants Cup, the Interclub Cup, and the South American Cup

Although the club is one of the big names in their country's soccer, they recently suffered a defeat against Comunicaciones in the Concacaf League, a tournament that serves as a prelude to the Concachampions 2022.

For this reason, they are more determined than ever to get back to winning ways and will give their all in this edition of the tournament. Motagua will be the first opponent the Seattle Sounders will face.

Santos Laguna, Mexico

An old acquaintance of MLS teams in the Concachampions. The Mexican team has managed to become one of Mexico's greats in recent years.

According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, it is the fourth-best club of the 21st century in the Concacaf zone and the sixth Concacaf team of the first decade of the 21st century.

Although this Liga MX tournament they were eliminated in the semifinals by Tigres, the Guerreros are trying to seek new glory and have hired Pedro Caixinha, a coach with whom they had their best days in the past.

This team will be Montreal's first opponent, and they will have to give their best on the field to avoid defeat in their first match.

AS Cavaly, Haiti

The Haitian club is not a power in its local tournament, where it has only been crowned once and has been a Cup finalist on 1 occasion.

However, the team managed to win the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship, defeating their rival RK Sherpenheuvel with a score of 3-0, demonstrating that even when playing away from home, they are a team that is not afraid of their rivals.

This team will be the rival of the New England Revolution

Santos de Guápiles, of Costa Rica

The red tide, as it is known in its country, seeks to put an end to a streak of runner-up finishes that have haunted it.

For example, in the Concacaf League, they obtained the runner-up spot in 2017. And in the last edition of the tournament, they finished in sixth place, which earned them a place in the Concachampions 2022.

However, they have always been looking to leap to the next level, which is why this year they ranked third in the general table of the Costa Rican First Division.

This team will be the first rival of the current MLS champions, New York City FC

Comunicaciones, of Guatemala

The last team on this list, but the most lethal of all, took second place in Guatemala's Primera División this year.

They were also the winners of the Concacaf League 2021, defeating Motagua in the first and second legs, with scores of 4-2 and 2-1.

Their triumph became a historic event as it broke the hegemony of the Costa Rican and Honduran teams, which were the countries that had won the competition.

With this hunger for success that Comunicaciones brings, it is best that their first rival, Colorado Rapids, not be distracted for a second.
