It’s no lie Matias Almeyda likes Mexican players, after his 3-year stint with Chivas, the Argentinean coach learned how reliable they can be, no matter where on the pitch you place them. Then, since he joined MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, he’s slowly added Mexican players to his squad year after year.

During the 2021 MLS Season, Almeyda had Oswaldo Alanís, Carlos Fierro and Javier “Chofis” López on the roster, but after the season ended, the Quakes decided to part ways with both Alanís and Fierro. Now, with less than two months until the start of 2022 season, he wants to add another Mexican to his squad.

Reports suggest that “El Pelado” Almeyda is after Jair Pereira, with whom he shared dressing room during his time with Chivas. Pereira currently is a free agent, and has been for the past six months, after not renewing his contract with Necaxa prior the beginning of Apertura 2021.

What has been of Pereira’s life?

After ending contract with Necaxa, Jair Pereira underwent a treatment for knee problems that he was suffering from, but at 35 years, he hasn’t retired from soccer yet and Matías Almeyda already contacted the player to see if he wants to join him in a new adventure, now in the MLS.
