Mexico National Team has less than seven months to prepare for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as they know they need to improve their performances if they want to have a worthy participation in Qatar, especially since they are facing Poland, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.

El Tri already started the preparation with a friendly game against Guatemala played in Camping World Stadium on April 27, where Gerardo “Tata” Martino used an alternate roster given that it was not played in a FIFA match window.

But the Argentine coach was able to see different players, especially young ones that often don’t have the opportunity of wearing El Tri colors in the first team, as he called 13 players under 23 that are usuals in the academy squads.

Gerardo Martino has yet to define six more player for the 26-man roster that El Tri will have for the World Cup, spots that he is trying to use to give younger players a chance of earning experience and proving why they are called to be the next El Tri players.

Zlatan knows the Mexican player that could help much of Martino’s problems

Although El Tri has yet to find a good striker that can score consistently to improve their chances of beating Poland and Argentina, Gerardo Martino also needs to find at least a midfielder that can improve the possession and control of the game, as neither Héctor Herrera nor Andrés Guardado have been that player.

Although he wasn’t one of the players that Martino called for the game against Guatemala, Zlatan Ibrahimovic knows that Efraín Álvarez has the talent to turn things around in El Tri, as he became his mentor during his stint with LA Galaxy.

When asked about Efraín Álvarez, Zlatan said that, for him, “he’s a player that knows about soccer. There are players that play soccer and players that think in and about soccer. For me, Efraín is a player that thinks of soccer and that makes him one of the best in the world.”

Can he play in Qatar?

The 19-year-old offensive midfielder has played four games with the Mexican national team, all of them with “Tata” on the dugout. He debuted against Costa Rica on a friendly game and was part of the roster that played in the 2021 Gold Cup, but since then he hasn’t returned to a call-up of El Tri.
