Even after Gerardo “Tata” Martino managed to earn 7 out of the 9 available points on the past FIFA match window, in FMF they’re still not convinced about the way Mexico National Team plays, as they usually are outspeed, given than the main players are on the last years of their careers.

Orbelín Pineda finally debuted with Celta de Vigo in La Liga

According to the reports of Diario Récord, Yon de Luisa and the Mexican Football Federation are considering replacing Gerardo Martino if El Tri doesn’t step up their game in the upcoming FIFA match window, when they’ll play against USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador.

If Martino doesn’t win and convince, Mexico National Team will part ways with the Argentinean coach, which is why they are looking for a coach that can assume his position if needed. So far, Miguel Herrera, Javier Aguirre and Nicolás Larcamón have been linked to El Tri, although they won’t be arriving in El Tri.

Who is going to replace Martino?

Reports suggest that Alejandro Irarragorri, who is part of FMF assembly as Liga MX owner counselor, is willing to let Diego Cocca leave Atlas to replace Gerardo Martino, as he’s proved what he’s capable of after making Los Zorros Liga MX champions after more than 70 years.

Diego Cocca’s numbers with Atlas

Cocca debuted as a coach in Gimansia y Esgrima, back in 2009. After just two years, he arrived in Mexico for his first stint in Liga MX, with Santos Laguna, club also owned by Alejandro Irarragorri and Grupo Orlegi. His second club in Liga MX was Tijuana, in 2014.

Cocca arrived in Atlas for Apertura 2020 after his stint with Argentinean side Rosario Central came to an end. In the 4 seasons he’s coached Los Zorros, he’s been in Atlas’ dugout for 59 games, winning 25, drawing 16 and losing the remainder 18.
