Mexican Football Federation president, Yon de Luisa, recently said that Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s spot as Mexico National Team coach isn’t guaranteed, although they’ll have to wait first for the results El Tri gets on the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers window.

If Mexico National Team doesn’t earn at least 7 points on the upcoming games against Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panama, Martino’s era as El Tri coach might come to an end. And given that he already thought on resigning, some names to replace him have starting to rise.
Matías Almeyda has never hide the affection he feels towards Mexico. He’s even mentioned that he’d be open to become Mexico National Team coach if the opportunity presented, something that might happen soon, and one of his first decisions would be calling Carlos Vela back.

Matías Almeyda arrived in Chivas for Apertura 2015 and was El Rebaño coach for 3 years. During his stint in Mexico, Almeyda coached a total of 139 games, both in Liga MX and international tournaments. He won a total of 56 games, tied 44 and lost the remainder 39, but he helped Chivas win 5 titles with him on the bench.
