Mexico National Team haven’t secured their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup given the irregular results they’ve had in the last year, but especially after the back-to-back defeats they had last November, where they lost against USMNT and Canada MNT.

The Aztec squad has showed a lack of aim that is worrisome, not only for the Mexican followers but also for the Mexican Football Federation, who aren’t convinced that Gerardo Martino is the best option for El Tri moving forward.

Although they’re going to wait until the current FIFA match window is over to decide what will happen with Martino’s future in El Tri, they’re keeping the door open to new options, in case they decided to part ways with the Argentine coach.

One of the names that recently has been linked to the Mexican national team is the one of Nicolás Larcamón, who is one of the best coaches in Liga MX in the past couple of years, as he’s helped Club Puebla become a contender.

The players that will leave El Tri if he arrives

Larcamón knows that what Mexico National Team currently needs is a generational change, as there’s many players in Liga MX that deserve a chance in the senior squad, but given that Martino keeps calling the same players, they haven’t been able to prove their talent.

That’s why Larcamón would consider opening the door to young promising players in El Tri, something he’s also done during his stint with La Franja, as he’s debuted several players from the academy and even has Israel Reyes, who is only 21, as an essential player on his lineup.

But in order to do that, he knows that he’ll have to stop calling other players, especially the ones that haven’t helped El Tri in the last year. His blacklist for now is conformed by Jesús Gallardo, Héctor Moreno, Guillermo Ochoa and Jorge Sánchez.

Can Larcamón arrive in El Tri before Qatar 2022?

It’s yet to be seen what happens with Martino, but Larcamón has said multiple times that, for now, he’s focused on helping Club Puebla reach Liguilla and then they’ll try to reach the final, something that seems possible with their results. After Clausura 2022 is over, he will decide his future.
