Marcelo Bielsa is no stranger to Mexican soccer and Liga MX, as he had a stint with Atlas during the 90s, where he was responsible for creating one of the most successful Mexican academy teams that opened the doors to players like Rafael Márquez, Pavel Pardo, Daniel Osorno and even Andrés Guardado.

Although he didn’t have enough time to establish his system, as people considered it crazy for the time, he was part of Atlas for three seasons and then moved to Club América, where he coached Las Águilas for just one season.

He was offered to coach Mexico National Team after his stint with Club América, but “El Loco” Bielsa declined, as he knew how El Tri was handled and whimsical the players could be, something he already had experienced at first hand.

Who does Bielsa thinks is El Tri’s most mediocre player?

When Bielsa arrived in Las Águilas in 1995, Luis García also joined him in Club América after his stint in La Liga, where he showed his lack of determination as he asked for vacations after playing in Copa América with El Tri, something that made Bielsa mad, as he said that not even Maradona would have dare to ask for something like that.
