Rodolfo Cota shouldn’t be the starting goalkeeper of Mexico National Team for a $12 million reason

Although the Mexican national team were able to earn the victory, Giménez was the only player that found the net thanks to a pass that was created out of a team play, as the other two goals of the game were born out of mistakes.

The first one came from the hands of Rodolfo Cota a few minutes into the second half, as he tried to grab the ball instead of clearing it, and the other from William Troost-Ekong, who shoot against his own goal while trying to cut a crossed pass.

But Gerardo “Tata” Martino is still unsure about giving Santiago Giménez the chance of making it into the final roster of El Tri, as the 21-year-old striker didn’t have regularity during the season, which is why he knows he needs to leave Cruz Azul over the summer if he wants to be considered for Qatar.

The help he needs could come from Spain

According to reports, there’s two Liga MX clubs interested in acquiring him over the summer transfer window, Chivas and CF Monterrey, with the latter having tried to sign him prior Clausura 2022 started, although Reynoso refused to let him go.

Now that neither Reynoso nor Javier Aguirre are coaching in Liga MX, it will be “El Vasco” who gives him the opportunity of playing in Europe, hence making his case to play in Qatar stronger, as the Mexican coach was the one who requested his addition when he was in Rayados.

Aguirre was able to save RCD Mallorca from relegation in La Liga, and now that he knows they will stay in the Spanish top flight next season, he has requested the board to sign a few Mexican players he trusts, including Giménez, who has said in the past that the only way he’ll leave Cruz Azul is if he moves to Europe.

How much will they have to pay for Giménez?

If the Bermellones were to acquire him, they will have to pay $4.5 million for his transfer, an affordable sum for a team that is in need of reinforcements to avoid fighting to remain in La Liga for the second year in a row.
