After the troubles that Mexico National Team had during the CONCACAF Qualifiers, where they couldn’t beat neither Canada nor USMNT, they ensured their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to the 2-0 victory over El Salvador on the last game of the Qualifiers.
He plays in Barcelona and will resign to play for USMNT to join Mexico National Team
The Aztec squad will face one of the most balanced groups in Qatar 2022, as they will play against Poland on November 20 which will be their debut in the World Cup and the most important game, as if they win it, they will ensure their participation in the elimination stage. They will also face Argentina and Saudi Arabia.
But before arriving to the World Cup, Mexico National Team will have to improve their performances, something that Gerardo “Tata” Martino is aware of, as he even said that he had to prioritize the results over the performances during the CONCACAF Qualifiers.
That’s why El Tri has already agreed to play four friendly games from the end of May until the end of August, as Martino will use those games to solve the problems that El Tri had during the last year, especially from midfield up, as he needs to have the best players available on the final roster.
According to David Medrano, sports journalist from TV Azteca, the Argentine coach has decided most of the roster that he will take to Qatar, as he already decided on 20 of the players that will be on his roster and he’s just looking to fill the remainder six.
But amongst the 20 players that he already considered, one of them ensured his presence thanks to reasons outside sports, as Guillermo Ochoa is investor of one of El Tri’s biggest sponsors for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It’s true that the Club América goalkeeper’s level is considered by Martino to be above the rest of the Mexican goalkeepers, but even if he didn’t, the fact that Ochoa is sponsoring El Tri via his company Kavak, would be enough reason to justify his presence in Qatar.
Guillermo Ochoa has said in the past that Qatar 2022 will be his last World Cup, as he knows that he is on the last part of his career. But after he saw what Carlos Acevedo was able to do, he hinted that he is going to try to make it to the 2026 World Cup.
He finally understood and won’t play with Mexico National Team in Qatar 2022
