Miguel Herrera appears as the 'b option' for Mexico's national team for Qatar 2022, in the event that the owners decide that Gerardo 'Tata' Martino will not remain in charge of the Tricolor. The 'Piojo' assures that "he would never say no to the Tricolor" and believes that "if Martino is not healthy, he would have to step aside".

"We question why he doesn't go to matches because of his health, but if he is unhealthy, he should step aside, beyond that, I don't know what he has. If he flies to Argentina, he would have to fly to Honduras," commented Miguel Herrera, Tigres' coach, in an interview with ESPN's Ahora o Nunca program.

Miguel Herrera appears as a possible emerging coach of the Mexican national team, in case 'Tata' Martino does not continue. Currently, the Argentinean has health problems, as he has had to undergo surgery for retinal detachment and was unable to travel to two qualifying matches.

What did Herrera say?

"I think my name has always been on the table, I'm very pleased, very proud, it means that I do things well wherever I go to work. Honestly, my head is 100 percent in Tigres, I've also said it, I'm never going to say no to the National Team, but today it's not happening for me, I have a contract with Tigres and the FMF would have to talk to them, to see how they come to an agreement," added 'Piojo' Herrera.

The Tigres coach clarifies that he is focused on the performance of the Monterrey team, although he adds that "the current level of the Mexican national team does not give us any illusions about a World Cup".

However, the only certainty is that Gerardo Martino's coaching staff is clear that Mexico so far has not had any problems and is 90 percent qualified for Qatar, which is one of the objectives that was requested. The rest simply understand that it is part of soccer, but the idea is for Mexico to transcend in the next World Cup.
