The Mexican national team is very close to sealing its ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. After tying against the United States and beating Honduras, the last game will be against El Salvador at the Azteca Stadium to make their participation in the World Cup official.

According to journalists Heriberto Murrieta and John Sutcliffe of ESPN, the Mexican Soccer Federation and the owners of the Liga MX clubs continue to have Miguel Herrera in their sights in case they have to press the 'emergency button'.

“In the event that the Mexican national team qualifies for the World Cup, club owners will vote to decide whether Gerardo Martino will remain or Miguel Herrera will be hired as an emerging coach, according to John Sutcliffe”, Heriberto Murrieta clarified via Twitter.

For this reason, it cannot be ruled out that 'Piojo' Herrera is within the orbit of the Tricolor; he is currently in charge of Tigres UANL and is doing great in the Clausura 2022 Liga MX tournament.

Martino, from being considered for the 2026 process to not coaching in Qatar

It is believed that the FMF already had a renewal for 'Tata' Martino ready for the 2026 World Cup process; however, for the moment everything has been put on hold due to the irregular performance of the Mexican national team in the Concacaf qualifiers.

Martino has now gone four games without a win against the United States and is in third place in the qualifiers, behind the Stars and Stripes and the qualified team from Canada.

Like every year, 'Tata' Martino will be asked to evaluate his team's performance and his continuity will be analyzed in order to decide, through a vote, if he will continue on the road to Qatar 2022.

In addition, the Tricolor promised to renew the team and this has not happened, so it continues to bet on the same players as in the last cycle, leaving aside young players.

On the other hand, Miguel Herrera is one of the favorites of the current president of the FMF, Yon de Luisa, who has asked him to stay away from controversy and dedicate himself to his work in order to maintain this status in case he is needed for the Aztec team.
