The coach of Club Sport Herediano of Costa Rica made some controversial statements that did not go unnoticed by the fans of the Mexican national soccer team, who are waiting for the World Cup Qualifying game to take place.

Soto spoke about the current situation of El Tri and with his words, he ignited the match before it started by saying something that echoed throughout the Mexican media.

What did Jafet Soto say about the Mexican national soccer team?

The Costa Rican coach stated that Mexico "thinks it is more than what it is" and that "the Azteca stadium no longer weighs", statements that ignited the spirits of El Tri's fans.

The coach's exact statements were as follows:

"Mexico's national team has long believed itself to be more than it is, I am not saying it, between the lines Héctor Herrera explains that, that when they get to play in Costa Rica the stadium weighs, when they go to Honduras the stadium weighs, then he recognizes that they do not weigh in the Azteca Stadium because the fans do not weigh".

The coach made these statements in an interview for MARCA Claro MVS, but they were not his only statements on the subject. The following statement by the player was also a harsh blow for Mexican players.

The coach did not hold back and also criticized Mexican players who think that "they are going to get through the World Cup qualifying round on foot".

On this subject, Soto said: "Easy qualifying rounds are a thing of the past, the players themselves have bought into the idea that they are going to win by walking and we saw it in Jamaica, where Mexico came close to making a fool of themselves. That gives you credibility and the conviction that you can achieve something in Mexico".

Jafet Soto also talked about the Costa Rican national soccer team

Soto wasted no time in the interview to address the current situation of the Costa Rican national soccer team and explained that from his perspective, every game played against Mexico is like a final

"It is another final for Costa Rica, I think it is determinant for us on Sunday to add to continue with that World Cup dream," said the former player but also explained his point of view on what is happening with the "Ticos" at present with the World Cup Qualifying.

Soto said that the issue Costa Rica is facing is a generational change that is still in process.

"Costa Rica is undergoing a generational change and obviously we are clear about what our disease is. Right now we are in a complicated situation, but soccer is so kind that we are still alive."

Costa Rica is currently in fifth place in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, where it has 12 points, five points behind Mexico.
