For a while, Héctor Moreno was one of the best defenders Mexico National Team had. He was reliable, cold minded and seem to always see how open the pitch in front of him was. But now, after returning to Mexico, his shape is in decay and far away from what he showed he could do when he was back in Europe.
Moreno had a fruitful career playing for Dutch side PSV, after which he transferred to Roma AS, where he had a hard time, but he gained regularity again when he arrived to Real Sociedad. But now, as a Monterrey player and after his time in Qatar, he’s far from what El Tri needs.
That hasn’t stopped Gerardo “Tata” Martino of calling him back over and over, even if his decision is closing the door to a young promising player that could be of more help than Moreno. So far, Israel Reyes has had a couple of outstanding seasons playing for Club Puebla.
Who is Israel Reyes?
The 21-year-old center back first debuted with Atlas, but Club Puebla acquired him in 2021, and now has become an essential player for Larcamón’s squad, as he is always part of his starting XI. He recently had his debut with El Tri in the friendly match Mexico played against Chile National Team on December.
