Gerardo Martino insisted on calling up Raul Jimenez for months despite the Wolverhampton striker's obvious injury. By calling him up and leaving out the likes of Santiago Gimenez, Raul was expected to at least make the starting lineup for the second game, or so the coach had predicted.

Now, it is confirmed before the game against Argentina that Gerardo Martino simply seems to be taking him for a ride as he does not plan to start him from the first minute against Lionel Scaloni's team and worst of all, he does not even plan to start a midfielder in the game.

According to ESPN Mexico, Gerardo Martino has tested a 5-3-2 formation in training prior to the Mexican national team's match against Argentina. This is a formation where he plans to populate defense and midfield and leave only Alexis Vega up front with Hirving Lozano as attacking references.

Can Mexico be eliminated if they lose?

The Mexican national team is desperate for points, but it still has a chance if it loses against Argentina this matchday. With a point, they could resort to a big win against Saudi Arabia to try to make the epic and qualify for the round of 16 on goal difference. If Argentina loses to Mexico, they are out of the World Cup.
