Mexico National Team will face USMNT in Estadio Azteca on March 24 in what will be the toughest game for Gerardo “Tata” Martino since he arrived in El Tri’s bench, as it could seal his future with the Aztec squad but also because the Bars and Stripes have won the last three games.

If that wasn’t enough, Martino might have to call different players than the ones he’s used to given that at least three players are questionable for the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, something that has make “Tata” consider giving an opportunity to players like Marcelo Flores.

The call of Flores could arrive to substitute Andrés Guardado, who left injured the game that Real Betis had against Atlético Madrid, last weekend. It’s yet to be seen how his injury develops, but he might not be ready to play against the Bars and Stripes.

His first call for an official match with El Tri couldn’t arrive in a better time, as he has established on the starting XI of Arsenal U-23 team, two stages above the academy team he should be playing with, and just one step below debuting with the senior squad, something that might happen soon as Mikel Arteta has considered him in the past to train with them.

The door closes for Canada

It’s worth remembering that Marcelo Flores can also play for Canada or England, and even if the latter hasn’t tried to have him in their squads, Canada MNT has pushed several times to convince the young midfielder to join them.

Canada is currenty having their best participation in the CONCACAF Qualifiers as they have a golden generation that wants to strengthen with Marcelo Flores, but if he debuts with El Tri in the next FIFA match window, he’ll be closing the door for the Maple Leaves.

Will there be more surprises in El Tri’s roster?

To the absence of Guardado, it will be possible that both Diego Lainez and Rogelio Funes Mori will follow El Tri’s captain, as neither of them have been able to play on the latest games in their respective domestic leagues given that they’re dealing with lingering injuries.

Instead of Funes Mori, Santiago Giménez is on his way to have his first call to an official match with Mexico National Team, joining Marcelo Flores, as he has been proven to be vital for Cruz Azul in their last few games, where he’s scored a goal and assisted once.
