The Aztec squad will open their participation against Poland, on a game that will be decisive for the aspirations of both teams to enter to the elimination stage, as they both have a similar level, although having Robert Lewandoski will be a major threat that Johan Vásquez and César Montes will have to deal with.

The second game will be against Argentina, team that eliminated El Tri in back-to-back World Cups, in Germany 2006 and then in South Africa 2010. Mexico has never been able to beat them in a World Cup, although the bright side is that they won’t have to face them in later stages if they manage to access the round of 16.

The Mexican national team will finish their participation against Saudi Arabia, the weakest of the dour teams in Group C, but if El Tri doesn’t earn at least three points from their previous two games, the game against Saudi Arabia could mean their last game in Qatar 2022.

Jorge Campos knows that El Tri needs a generational change

Jorge Campos is one of FIFA’s representatives given that he’s one of the most renown Mexican players, which has opened the doors for him to be part of events like the Group Stage Draw ceremony, where he was invited to represent CONCACAF and Mexico.

During his participation in TV Azteca’s Los Protagonistas, he said that Qatar 2022 should be the World Cup where El Tri starts having a generational change in order to arrive to the 2026 World Cup with the best team El Tri has had in a long time.

But for that to happen, Gerardo “Tata” Martino needs to stop calling players like Guillermo Ochoa, Jesús Gallardo, Héctor Moreno and Luis “Chaka” Rodríguez, who have made it clear that they can no longer contribute to El Tri.

Who are the players that Martino should call instead?

The list should start with Carlos Acevedo, who has showed that he’s more than capable of fulfilling the starting role in any team he plays, including El Tri. And instead of “Chaka”, Moreno and Gallardo, Alan Mozo, Israel Reyes and Salvador Reyes should receive an opportunity.
