Mexico National Team will face their first friendly game of the year on April 27 as part of the Mextour, when they receive Guatemala on the pitch of Camping World Stadium, in Orlando, Florida for a game that will serve as a showcase for Liga MX players.

Given that the game won’t be played in a FIFA match window, Gerardo “Tata” Martino won’t be able to have the usual roster he calls, as the players in Europe are out of the picture as their teams didn’t allow them to join El Tri camp because they’re playing the last part of the season.

But instead of it being a problem for the Aztec squad, Martino knows that he’ll be able to work with some players that he usually doesn’t call, especially for the Liga MX players that are still waiting for an opportunity.

Reports suggest that there’s a chance that Martino calls some MLS players, as well as Marcelo Flores, although Gerardo Torrado is still negotiating with Arsenal for his loan. But even with all the opportunities, Martino has refused again to call Javier “Chicharito” Hernández.

His replacement doesn’t even play

In the last few weeks, Gerardo Martino has been more open about the absence of “Chicharito” Hernández from El Tri, as there isn’t any sport reason to back up the lack of call ups he’s had, but the Argentine coach already said that is a decision that was taken from within and that he won’t be part of the roster that goes to Qatar.

Instead of Hernández, Martino will give a new opportunity to Sebastián Córdova, who has lost the protagonism he acquired during his first seasons in Liga MX, when he played for Necaxa and then for Club América, when Miguel “Piojo” Herrera was still coaching Las Águilas.

Since he left, Córdova couldn’t establish in Santiago Solari’s lineup and even had a few discussions with him, which opened the door for his departure to Tigres, where he has played 11 games of Clausura 2022, although only 4 of them as a starter.

Will he make it to the World Cup?

Córdova was a starter in the last game Tigres played, where he played 75 minutes and scored a goal, although it’s yet to be seen if he keeps up the good performances, which is the only way that he’d be able to convince Martino to take him to Qatar.
