Mexican striker Hirving Lozano was sent off in the 83rd minute after a foul against Nicolás González in the Coppa Italia round of 16 match between Napoli and Fiorentina. The Mexican winger had barely been on the field for 20 minutes when he left his team with ten men.

Chucky did not reach the ball that was too long for him after a control on the left flank and when he tried to recover the ball, he stepped on González, who was left lying on the field of play. At first, the referee showed him a yellow card.

After the VAR called the central referee to see the play, it took Giovanni Ayroldi just a few seconds to rectify the decision and when he returned to the field he showed the red card to the Mexican.

Then, Lozano, who just returned to a call-up and got his first minutes of the year after testing positive for Covid-19 on December 28, was sent off and will miss Napoli's next game.

In addition to 'Chucky', Napoli also lost Fabián, who was sent off for a double yellow card after preventing a Fiorentina breakthrough towards the end of the match. In that play, the visitors broke away on a counterattack, but the referee stopped the play after the Fiore players complained.

Napoli lost in extra time

After 90 minutes, Napoli and Fiorentina played out a two-goal draw and took the quarter-final berth to extra time, thanks to goals from Dusan Vlahovic ('41) and Cristiano Biraghi ('57) for the Viola, as well as Dries Mertens ('44) and Andrea Petagana, who saved his team from the final whistle with a goal at 90'+5.

In extra time, Napoli suffered from the two sending offs and Fiorentina took advantage to score 3 goals to win 5-2. The goals were scored by Lorenzo Venuti (105'+1'), Krzysztof Piatek (108') and Youssef Maleh (119').

Unfortunately for Napoli fans, Chucky's team was eliminated from the Coppa Italia.
