Héctor Herrera has seen his performances diminished in the current season, not only with Mexico National Team, but especially with Atlético Madrid, where he’s been erased after Rodrigo de Paul’s arrival in the summer.

So far, Herrera has played only on 9 games in La Liga, but only in two in the starting XI, for a total of 276 minutes. And with Mexico National Team, the story hasn’t been different, as he’s performances had been severely criticized.
All his problems began in the current season, when Diego “Cholo” Simeone decided to bench him although he was essential for La Liga championship Atlético Madrid won last season. But from Madrid, rumors of a destitution are starting to rise, after losing the race for La Liga this year and nearly getting eliminated from Champions League.

Although Simeone renewed his contract with Los Colchoneros until 2024, recent results have people questioning his place in Atlético. Reports suggest that Atleti’s management are eyeing former Barcelona FC coach, Ernesto Valverde, who currently is without a team.
