Héctor Herrera trained with his teammates this Saturday, after overcoming the coronavirus, so the Mexican will be ready to return to competition against Villarreal.

Out against Rayo Vallecano due to COVID-19, Herrera was not included in the call-up list last Thursday for the Copa del Rey match against Rayo Majadahonda. On Friday he trained on the sidelines and this Saturday he joined his teammates in the last training session before Sunday's match at La Cerámica stadium.

Despite his return, he does not seem to have a place in the team

Mexican midfielder Héctor Herrera's time at Atlético de Madrid could be over. His relevance in the team this season has been null and void, and the Portuguese press assures that he will leave the rojiblanco club in this winter market.

Héctor Herrera's future is likely to take him away from Atlético de Madrid. This season he has lost Simeone's confidence and has hardly had minutes. Herrera has played ten games so far this season, half as many as in the entire last season. But he has only been a starter on two occasions. As a result, he has barely reached 300 minutes of play, compared to almost 1,000 in 2020-21, an equally poor number, but appropriate for his role.

Roma is interested in the Mexican

At the end of December, the rumor that places him at José Mourinho's Roma has gained strength, and from Portugal they assure that his departure seems imminent. A Bola' says that the capital team will be his next destination, as does 'La Gazzetta dello Sport'.

MLS also keeping an eye on Hector Herrera

The MLS could be his next destination, as the official website of the US soccer league included the Mexican in a list of ten possible additions in the winter market for the 2022 season. In this way, he would put an end to three seasons in the rojiblanco team after his spell with Porto.

"It appears that the Mexican midfielder's time at Atletico Madrid is coming to an end. Considering Herrera's minutes this season and the fact that his contract expires in the summer, it is likely that Atleti will listen to an offer for him in the current winter transfer window," MLS said.

The Mexican has a contract until next June, so there are two options: either he reaches an agreement with Atleti for the termination, or Atlético de Madrid agree with a team a transfer at a reduced price. Herrera has a market value of around five million euros.
