When he first left to pursue his dream of playing in Europe, he was one of the most promising Mexican players at the time. He debuted in Liga MX when he was just 16 and just one year later, he was already part of Mexico National Team senior squad.

In 2019 he was acquired by Real Betis for $16 million out of Club América and that’s how his journey in La Liga began. But Diego Lainez story hasn’t been a successful one after that. On the three years he’s been part of Los Béticos, he only has played in 67 games and scored 4 goals.

Although Manuel Pellegrini has stated that they want to keep him on the team, as he’s still young and with a promising career, loaning him to a team where he could gain regularity and adjust to European soccer might be the best move for him. And his chance might have just arrived.

Who is interested in acquiring Diego Lainez?

Reports suggest that Portuguese Sporting Lisboa are interested in acquiring him on a loan to strengthen their offensive side. So far, Sporting Lisboa is standing second on Primeira Liga, just three points behind FC Porto. Lainez could benefit from a loan to Lisboa as he’ll be playing for a contender.
