He decided to play for USMNT instead for Mexico National Team and now he’s away from the top leagues
He currently plays for Porto B.
It’s no wonder that soccer in the United States has grown exponentially in the last decades, so much that during the current transfer window, MLS teams have exported 10 young players to top European leagues.
With established projects from Academy teams to Tier I division and the possibility to jump to a top soccer league, is no wonder young talented players are deciding to play for USMNT instead of any other National Team they could defend if they wanted to.
That’s what happened with Sebastián Soto, who has played for US Soccer Academy squads, and has had a fruitful career, specially with the U-20 and U-23 squads. Although he also has Mexican and Chilean blood. But his decision might also have made him lost opportunities, as he currently plays for Porto B, in Portuguese second tier division.
Could he play for Mexico or Chile if he wanted to?
So far, Soto still has the possibility of defending Mexico or Chile National Teams, as he’s only played two friendly matches with USMNT. He needs to be called one more time as FIFA rules state that players must play on 3 friendly matches or one official match in order to stay with that nation.
