A lot has been said about Orbelín Pineda’s arrival to Celta de Vigo as a free agent after not wanting to extend his contract with Cruz Azul to follow his dream of playing in Europe. He almost didn’t join the Célticos because they didn’t have a non-European spot for him in the roster.

But now that he’s been officially introduced as Celta de Vigo’s first addition during the winter transfer window, and after meeting his new teammates and coach, Pineda might be facing a new problem that might keep him away from the pitch, something that could make him lose his place with Mexico National Team.

During an interview, Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet, Celta de Vigo’s coach, mentioned that Orbelín Pineda might not debut with the Spanish team in a long while, as he’s been out of activity for over 45 days and he first needs to catch up with the group, but that he hopes Pineda will be ready sooner rather than later.

What’s in store for Celta de Vigo in La Liga?

After the elimination from Copa del Rey by a 2-1 score against Atlético Baleares, team that plays in the Spanish third division, Celta de Vigo will have to focus on La Liga, where they stand 13 now, and they’ll look to end the season as far away as possible from the relegation spots.
