After Raúl Jiménez's injury and Chicharito Hernández's non-call-up, the options seem to be limited for Gerardo Martino and the Mexican Soccer Federation. The desperation is evident, which is why they are seriously considering bringing in some naturalized strikers, among them, André-Pierre Gignac.

The Tigres striker, as a Frenchman, played in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, however, under the new FIFA statutes, if a player has not played for his national team for more than 3 years, he may be eligible.

According to internal sources at Femexfut, a letter has already been sent requesting to unblock Gignac's call-up to Mexico. At least, to know if this is possible or if there is simply no option at all. In addition to the Frenchman, there are two strikers who could be eligible to play for El Tri.

Which naturalized strikers could make it to El Tri?

In addition to the case of the Tigres striker, the Mexican Soccer Federation is already considering the cases of Nicolás Ibáñez and Julio Furch, Argentinean players who intend to speed up their naturalization procedures in order to be eligible to play for Mexico and participate in the Mexican national team.
