Although just barely, like most of the games they’ve played in the CONCACAF Qualifiers, Mexico National Team managed to beat 1-0 a Honduras team that couldn’t win a single game and only saved a draw at home.

The player that doesn’t respect Guillermo Ochoa in Mexico National Team

It took 70 minutes to score the first and only goal of the match, although the Mexican squad didn’t need much more to earn the three points, as Honduras barely have position of the ball and only approached Ochoa’s box a couple of times.

Nevertheless, even if the result was beneficial for El Tri, the performance throughout the 90 minutes still worries both Gerardo “Tata” Martino and the Mexican Football Federation, as all the improvement showed against UMSNT was erased this Sunday.

If that wasn’t enough, Héctor Herrera, one of the favorite players of the Argentine coach, will miss the next game due to an accumulation of yellow cards, something that can be of help to El Tri given that Herrera has been one of the worst players on the pitch.

What will happen to Herrera?

Gerardo Martino has been angry at the Atlético Madrid midfielder since he decided to leave La Liga to join MLS side Houston Dynamo, given that he’s leaving one of the most competitive leagues in the world just months before the World Cup is played.

But after it became clear that his mind is not focused in helping El Tri achieving the passage to Qatar 2022, as he gifted a yellow card during the first half on a play that didn’t mean any danger to El Tri’s goal, Martino is considering leaving him out of the final roster.

Given that he won’t be able to play against El Salvador, Herrera could return early to Spain, missing the last game of the CONCACAF Qualifiers, something that will rest him points and opens the door to other players to show why they have what it takes to earn the starting role.

Who can replace Herrera?

For the game of Wednesday night, Mexico won’t have their two starting midfielders for most of the Qualifiers, as neither Herrera nor Andrés Guardado are going to be on the pitch of Estadio Azteca. For now, the place of Guardado has been taken by Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez, who could be joined by Erick Gutiérrez against El Salvador.
