Gerardo “Tata” Martino will have one of the most challenging games of his career as coach on March 24, when Mexico National Team receive USMNT in Estadio Azteca for the opening game of the last World Cup Qualifiers match window.

Given the importance of the game, “Tata” will stick to the players he usually calls, as they already know how his system works and it won’t take them long to understand the plan for breaking the three-game losing streak against the Bars and Stripes.

That’s why there won’t be any major surprises in El Tri’s roster, as players like Rogelio Funes Mori or Guillermo Ochoa already have their spot reserved in Martino’s squad, even though they’re not having a good moment in their career.

But on his pursue of maintaining his job as El Tri’s coach, he’s closing the door to one of the most exciting players that Mexico has, and a striker that could be of more impact than Rogelio Funes Mori, as every time that Marcelo Flores plays for Arsenal U-23, he is involved in the scoreboard.

Will Marcelo Flores join Canada National Team?

Flores still has to play on an official match with El Tri, which still opens the possibility of playing for either Canada or England, although the former is the one interested in adding him to his roster for Qatar, as they are still offering the chance of being part of their final roster that has stars like Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanan and Jonathan David.

Flores keeps wanting to play for Mexico National Team, as his sisters, Tatiana and Silvana are also part of El Tri’s women academy teams. Marcelo currently plays with Arsenal U-23 team where he’s become a regular since debuting just a couple months ago.

The Mexican Argentine striker debuted with Mexico National Team in July 2021, on a friendly match against Nigeria in which El Tri won by a 4-0 score and were he scored his first goal. So far, he’s played 13 matches, while scoring 5 goals
